Contrasting characters
Both the characters in my monologues are extremely contrasting. Like I said in my character profiles one of the characters is very outgoing and excitable whereas the other has been made closed off and quite an anxious character due to her experiences.
Other monologue choices
I found my two monologues quite early on so I didn't really get a chance to look at many others, however I didn't manager to take a look at a couple of options before deciding on my final two.
The first play I looked at was 'A dolls house' there were a few good monologues but they were for men. At first I thought that I could make it work but I decided that the challenge of taking on the physicality of a male would be a bit too much of a challenge and would effect my performance baldly.
Another play I looked at was Antigone, I really like the story of this play but I decided I wanted to go more towards contemporary plays than classics.
Character Profiles
Donna-Taking care of baby
Donna is in her early thirties and has been convicted of killing her two infant children. She had a terrible time in prison due to the fact she was surrounded by people that had actually done extremely bad things to children, Donna believes she is innocent of killing her children. She is trying to get back on track with her life after spending time locked up, she's dating people and thinking about taking courses but she due to her bad experience she has become very closed off and anxious. She still feels as if her children are with her and she's clinging onto their memories to help her cope with the ordeal of losing them. The only time she felt without her children was when she was in prison and that was very difficult for her "nothing has been harder than that"
Her mother is a local MP and she see's Donna's situation an opportunity to make her look like the hero even if it makes Donna look bad. This had contributed to Donna's lack of confidence drastically.
Juniper-Many moons
Juniper is 24 and is a very outgoing character, she is very passionate about anything and everything. She's a very romantically driven person, always putting herself in situations where it's likely someone she's interested in will be there. She likes to think she's very arty and individual when she's actually very ordinary. She hates feeling like a stereotype even though she does al the things a stereotypical girl in her early 20's would do. She's relatively new to living in London so she's got so much to explore in her new home. Although she is always trying to find love she never really succeeds, so she has been trying online dating which she isn't willing to admit easily. She doesn't have a lot of street smarts which is why her mother worries that she's living in London. She comes across as too friendly sometimes and can become a bit overwhelming for some people.
